Biography
Marie Kajdasz is an award winning fiber artist living in Victoria, British Columbia. After studying Art and Interior Design at Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario, she graduated from York University with an honors degree in Visual Arts, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto, in 1980.
Marie's journey in stitching began as a young child when her grandmother taught her to sew on a treadle machine. As an adult she began quilting in a traditional manner making bed quilts. Her education in visual arts led to a keen interest in art history, architecture, and children's literature. This influenced the design of her quilts and she began creating one of a kind art quilts. Travel has inspired many of her images, and whimsical landscapes are a recurring theme.
Marie has taught and lectured at numerous quilting and stitching guilds. She has exhibited her work in solo, invitational and juried exhibits, in galleries and public spaces at both national and international levels, most recently as part of the FAN exhibit at Quilt Canada in Newfoundland. Her work has been seen in many publications since 1993. Marie's quilts are included in collections in Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, and Hong Kong.
